The construction of oil terminal in Primorsk sea port can be considered as a good illustration of typical large-scale project. The project has been completed within an extremely short period of time (12 months) in severe weather conditions (2 winters). There was a number of port facilities built under this project: deep sea berth, oil metering unit, customs office, firefighting station, different seashore infrastructure facilities, sea bed degradation works have been performed. More than 30 thousand cubic meters of concrete have been cast under the water and about 17 thousand piles have been driven offshore in the Gulf of Finland.

This construction project was also really important for the whole Russian oil and gas industry – according to the plan approved by the Russian President, oil export stream in the volume of more than 13 mln ton transferred earlier via Ventspils port (Latvia) was supposed to be redirected to Primorsk sea port which has been built and commissioned in 2001 and was a delivery end of Baltic pipeline system. Thus the construction site situated within the operating port zone which also brought additional difficulties and demanded exclusive construction safety standards.
